Road To The Rec began with a love of rugby, a strong connection to Rutland, and the influence of people who inspire others simply by the way they live.
Growing up as an Oakham lad and a lifelong Leicester Tigers supporter, rugby has always been more than a game — it’s been about values, resilience, and community. Those values sit at the heart of this challenge.

This challenge is inspired by Lewis Moody.
Lewis has been a huge inspiration to countless young players, not just through his achievements on the pitch, but through his attitude, leadership, and commitment to others. His recent diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) has been deeply affecting, and it brought into sharp focus how important it is to raise awareness and support those living with this devastating condition.
Road To The Rec is a tribute to that inspiration and a way of giving something back.

In June 2026, the challenge will see 232 kilometres covered over five days.
The journey begins at Welford Road, Leicester, and finishes at The Rec in Bath, reflecting part of Lewis’ own rugby journey. The route involves running the equivalent of a marathon each day, before a final half-marathon finish at Bath.
It’s a demanding physical and mental challenge — but one that pales in comparison to the daily realities faced by those living with MND.

Motor Neurone Disease is a cruel and incurable condition that affects thousands of individuals and families across the UK.
All funds raised through Road To The Rec will support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, helping to fund vital research and provide support for people living with MND and those who care for them. Every donation contributes to improving quality of life today, while working towards a cure for the future.

Road To The Rec isn’t just about miles or medals.
It’s about awareness.
It’s about gratitude.
And it’s about standing together in support of those facing MND.
Whether you’re donating, sharing the story, or following the journey, your support plays a part — and it truly means everything.
